MEDICAL ASSISTING PROGRAM

WHAT DO MEDICAL ASSISTANTS DO?

Medical assistants are specially-trained healthcare professionals who work closely with patients and doctors to keep medical clinics and offices running smoothly. They serve an important role in health organizations, keeping patient’s files organized and accessible and performing basic procedures like drawing blood. Your medical assisting education will prepare you to carry out the duties of an entry-level medical assistant.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The purpose of this program is to produce educated, highly skilled, credentialed medical assistants to meet the needs of our community in its many ambulatory care and hospital settings. The program is designed for each student to successfully achieve all of the competencies listed on the Medical Assistant Educational Review Board (MAERB) Master Competency list. The focus is on credentialing requirements, including a 192-hour practicum which prepares the student for gainful employment.

CLINICAL

Clinical learning experiences are provided affiliating hospitals, clinics and other ambulatory care facilities.

POST-GRADUATE OUTCOMES

The program terminates in an award of a Certificate of Completion as determined by the college issuing the award.

The program also prepares students to become eligible to complete the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification exam administered by the American Medical Technologists (AMT).
